|Born in Finland, he receieved basic cello education in the conservatory of his home town, Lahti, and at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. During 1996-8 he was studying in the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory of St.-Petersburg, Russia, with Professor A. Nikitin. The following years he spent studying with T. Thedéen in the Edsberg Music Institute and the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, where he also obtained his final soloist diploma in 2002. He has taken master classes with L. Harrell, Chr. Richter and M. Rousi and is currently working as Principal Cellist of the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra in Norway.
In 1994, Ilmari won 1st prize with his piano trio in a national chamber music competition in Lahti, and was also giving recitals in various countries and acting as a teacher and chamber musician at different festivals in Europe and Latin America.
Apart from that, he has also appeared as soloist of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Lima (Peru) and the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra.
