Jan Schulmeister (2006) piano

He began his musical journey at the Kroměříž Primary School of the Arts (E. Zonová), and is currently a freshman at the P. J. Vejvanovský Conservatory in Kroměříž (prof. M. Schulmeisterová). Since the age of seven he has been a regular participant of piano performance competitions, including the César Franck Piano Competition (Brussels), Piano Talents (Milan), Virtuosi per musica di pianoforte (Ústí nad Labem), Amadeus (Brno), Broumovská klávesa, Beethovenovy Teplice and other competitions in Estonia, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, Luxembourg, and North Macedonia. At these competitions he has won a number of prizes up to and including first prize, as well as other special prizes and honorable mentions.

 

For Jan himself, his greatest accomplishments to date are reaching the final round of the Concertino Praga International Radio Competition in 2020, where he won a first-degree honorable mention and 1st prize of the European Union of Youth Music Competitions (EMCY), and winning 2nd prize, the Audience Prize, and Prize for the Best Czech Contestant at the same event in 2021. Jan is also a regular participant in interpretation masterclasses – Prof. A. Vlasáková, M. Kasík, I. Kahánek, I. Klánský, N. Luganskij, T. Rossetti, Ph. Raskin, M. Sobula, E. Tkach. Thanks to his successes at competitions, Jan has had the opportunity to collaborate with a number of orchestras. As the absolute winner of the Amadeus International Competition, he performed with the Brno Philharmonic, the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Zlín, and the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the North Bohemia Philharmonic Teplice. In the area of chamber music, he regularly collaborates with the Wihan Quartet. He has also accepted invitations to perform at major festivals such as Dvořákova Praha, Prague Spring, Smetanova Litomyšl, Hudba v zahradách a zámku Kroměříž, and the Chopin Festival Mariánské Lázně. In 2018, Jan became the youngest member of the PETROF Art Family. To date he has published three CDs.
