Karen Kuronuma


Karen Kuronuma (1998) piano

was born in Japan. She placed second at the 11th International Piano Competition “Chopin for the youngest” in Poland, was nominated for a prize at the 15th Ettlingen Internatinal Competition for Young Pianists, and received the honors award at the Concurs Maria Canals in 2022.


After entering the Music High School attached to the Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts, at the age of 16 she won first prize, the Academy Award of Nomura, the Iguchi Aiko award, the award for Music Encouragement, and the NHK Prize at the 68th Student Music Competition of Japan.

She made her debut with the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra. She has played recitals in Hokkaido, Tokyo, and Hyogo.

After winning the Muza Soloist Audition, Karen performed as a soloist with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra in a program entitled  “The Masterpiece Classics in 2020”. Whilst many concerts faced cancellations and postponements due to the COVID-19 crisis, The Masterpiece Classics took a new approach by broadcasting the no-audience concert on “Niconico Live”, which successfully gained over 10 million views and acclamations from media for showcasing new possibilities of classical concerts today.


The CD of the live-streaming, released as “Live from Muza!”, won the Academy Award for Best Recording in the "Special" category. Her début album “Les soirées françaises ” was released by Octavia Records in 2021. Karen graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts and is currently studying piano at the Conservatoire de Paris.
