Martin Šulc (2001) accordion

Martin began playing the accordion when he was six years old and graduated from the Třeboň Primary School of the Arts (L. Slaninová). Already in 2011 he participated in, and won, the national competition of primary schools of the arts. In 2017 he joined the class of Prof. L. Horák at the Prague Conservatory. In the same year, he won 1st prize at an international accordion competition held in Ostrava. In the following year, he won 1st prize at the International Accordion Days competition in Prague.

 

This accomplishment brought him opportunities to perform at prestigious venues: for example, he was a guest performer at an international festival in Stockholm, and began to collaborate with the Dvořák Institute in Prague. Subsequently he won an international accordion competition in Alcobaca (Portugal), and reached the final rounds of two major competitions: CIA, the world accordion competition in Shenzhen, China and the competition in Castelfidardo, Italy. A year later, Martin winning the competition of conservatories of the Czech Republic. Later that same year, he won the Gold Awards in the international accordion videocompetition in New Zealand - an extraordinary accomplishment. In 2022 he was two-time winner in the Masters category of the National Accordion Competition in Dobřany, with a nomination to attend the world accordion competition CMA. Martin's greatest accomplishment of all came in 2020, when he reached the final rounds of the television competition show Virtuosos V4+ in Budapest.

 

Martin reached the superfinal, where he won 1st prize for the Czech Republic. Thanks to this unique accomplishment, Martin has received many invitations to perform at events such as the International Music Festival in Český Krumlov, a concert for members of the European Parliament in Strassbourg, and the opening concert of the Planet summit 2021  in Budapest, where Martin performed in the presence of Maestro Placido Domingo.
